25 Jan February 2017 Chair Report
As you have read from numerous sources, our January meeting was spirited, animated and lively. It was a microcosm of what is going on in this country. Regardless of which side you find yourself on, everybody wants to have their voice heard more than ever. At the community level, we love this passion and enthusiasm.
As a Community Council, we don’t take sides. Our role is to educate, advise, influence and advocate on behalf of numerous causes important to our local community. With this in mind, we have invited Shaleane Gee and Patrick Reimherr from the Salt Lake County Mayor’s office to our February SHCC meeting to answer questions regarding the service model for the Homeless Resource Centers. We will continue to invite different speakers to educate us and to offer new perspectives on the Homeless Resource Centers and other timely topics.
Construction Update:
The Jordan Canal Repair Project will begin February 1st and needs to be done by March 1st. We do not foresee any impact on vehicle traffic. Pedestrian traffic will be impacted along Highland Drive between Wilmington and Sugarmont. The CVS Drugstore Project, the Boulder Ventures Project and 10th East 21st South apartments will all be cranking up in the next month. Bill Knowles will be at our March meeting for a more in depth update.
The Harmons Brickyard Fuel Center, Sego Homes Development and the 21st and 21st Small Area Plan went to the Planning Commission on Wednesday January 25th. Check for updates under Sugarhousecouncil.org under the Land Use & Zoning Committee Report.
