Jordan and Salt Lake Canal Replacement Project
Presentation by Salt Lake City Department of Public Utilities (SLCDPU)
Presenters: SLCDPU engineers Natalie Moore and Bernard Moe, along with Mike Chambers, consulting engineer with Hansen Allen and Luce Engineering
Project summary: This long-planned project will replace the 100-year-old Jordan & Salt Lake Canal, which is deteriorating after much use and a long life. SLCDPU proposes removing the existing concrete culvert (underground) with new concrete pipe. The area affects 2200 South to 2350 South, on the west side of Highland Drive. Trees along the stretch from Wilmington to Ashton avenues will be replaced with new trees integrated into a modern and ecofriendly storm drain system.
Project date: Construction anticipated to start in Fall 2020 and complete in Spring 2021.
