October 2016 Chair Report

The SHCC will elect a new executive committee at the October meeting. After serving as chair for 2 years I decided it was time for someone else to take the helm.

I believe that any organization thrives when new ideas, vision and blood are welcomed in leadership.
Looking back on my time in SHCC leadership I feel a part of a group that accomplished a lot. I could write a list of all those things, but that would be boring. Ultimately I will look back on my time as one where we won some and lost some. I have always viewed public participation as an opportunity to give voice to our neighborhoods. Learn about the processes and figure out how to make our comments more effective to bring about change. I see some great things our advocacy has accomplished.
I look forward to next year where I serve out my term and pass along some of the primary outreach tools such as the newsletter and website. I look forward to seeing how they change and grow.
When I look back on the 8 years of my volunteer work for the community council one of the best things I cherish is going out into the neighborhood and always seeing people I know. That alone has made Sugar House feel like a small community.
Fading into the sunset isn’t really my style. I plan on always being involved because I have too much love for my community. I hope to see you all around the local haunts, trails, and events.
