MINUTES

1)  Welcome

  • Landon welcomed everyone to the meeting. We’re hosing another marathon aid station: please come and volunteer.

2)  Hoang Nguyen

  • Hoang is a Democratic candidate for State House District 23. She is a small business owner. Primary season is coming up: please register to vote and participate!

3)  Det. Fallows

  • Lights are a great way to prevent crime. Motion lights are good; lights on all night are better. Make sure your car and home doors are locked at night. If you see a prowler or someone is trying to get into your house, call 911.

4)  Brandon and Erica/Spotlight on Business

  • Sugar House Rocks kicks off on May 17. Please volunteer to help. There won’t be a Sugar House Rocks in June. June us from 6-8 on April 16 at the Locker Room for a Sugar House Chamber get together.
  • Kyle and his wife own Sugar House Barbershop. Kyle’s been a barber for 8 ½ years. He specializes in more traditional barber services: short haircuts, shaves, etc. Please make an appointment!

5)  Nalini Nadkarni/Myra Gerst

  • Ms. Nadkarni discussed Nature and Human Health, https://www.natureandhealthutah.org/. Nature can be beneficial for your health. Ms. Gerst discussed a landscape assessment the initiative conducted in the valley. There are a number of membership activities and you can sign up for the newsletter. Ms. Nadkarni and Ms. Gerst opened the floor to questions and discussion about the initiative.

6)  Sarah Woolsley

  • There are activities coming up for Earth Day. Please join us!

7)  Kari from Academy of Earth Science

  • They would like to place more interns in the Sugar House area. One of the Academy’s interns discussed their internship in Sugar House.

8)  UTA Update on S-Line and Desert Industries Building

  • The City would like to dedicate the DI building to affordable housing. What exactly that will look like is up in the air.
  • UTA gave an update on the S-Line. UTA will extend the S-Line to Highland and to add double track from 500E to 700 E. The City would like to extend the S-Line further than this 900-foot extension but there is no firm plan on where the extension will be.

9)  Hannah from the Mayor’s Office

  • Hannah discussed some programs from the Mayor’s office including a gas lawn mower turn in to get an electric mower. You can also apply for the rebate if you don’t have gas powered mowers to turn in. The City is supporting art installations around the City. There are a number of Earth Day volunteer activities. There are a lot of RDA projects going on around the City.

10)   Sarah Young/Rep. Briscoe/Sen. Blouin

  • Ms. Young gave a shout out to Det. Fallows. He provides great services to the community. The S-Line extension may be short but it sets it up for future extensions.
  • Rep. Briscoe and Sen. Blouin discussed various legislative matters.
