SUGAR HOUSE COMMUNITY COUNCIL BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING

Meeting Minutes – April 3, 2013

The regular meeting of the Sugar House Community Council was held on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at 7:00pm, at the Sprague Library. Trustees in attendance were Michael G. Kavanagh, Russ Callister, Annalisa Holcombe, Laurie Bray, Sally Barraclough, Amy Barry, Christopher Thomas, Judi Short, Cabot Nelson, Scott Kisling, Steve Lester, Dave Mulder, Larry Migliaccio, Rawlins Young, Shelia O’Driscoll, Maggie Shaw, and Carol Straughn. Christopher Thomas served as chair and Cabot Nelson as secretary. The trustees noted as excused were Benny Keele, Topher Horman, and Robin Bastar.

Call to order at 7:05pm. Cabot Nelson gave his secretary report. Motion to approve the minutes of the March meeting passed on a voice vote.


Deborah Henry’s petition as a new trustee was passed on a voice vote.

Committee reports

Sally Barraclough reported for the Parks and Open Space committee.

Larry Migliacchio yielded the time for theTransportation committee to Bill Knowles.

Laurie Bray reported for the Arts and Cultural committee.

Special presentations

Robin Hutcheson of SLC Transportation Department; DJ Baxter & Ed Butterfield of the Salt Lake RDA; David Everitt, Art Raymond & Shawn McDonough of the Salt Lake Mayor’s Office; and Soren Simonsen of the Salt Lake City Council made a presentation on the streetcar alignment. The SHCC conducted a straw poll on the following options:

1. What do you want the monument plaza to be?

a) a pedestrian plaza

b) a streetcar turnaround

c) leave it as-is

2. Where do you want the street car to go?

a) East on 2100 South

b) North on 1100 East

The results broken down by trustees, attendees, and non-attendees were as follows:

Community and City Presentations

Soren Simonsen gave updates about Salt Lake City Council.
