Presentations –
- Deseret Industries – The DI wishes to move their operations from their current location to the site of the Circuit City building. They want to demolish the mansion on the south portion of the parking lot to combine 2 parcels to redevelop. The main building has been grand-fathered in and adding two parcels together will require a conditional use permit. There was a discussion about colors and design of the building and signage. The DI plans to move entrances slightly more west, but still on the south side of the building. They are interested in staying Sugar House and have modeled this development on the same plan for multiple DI’s. They need 250 parking slots and that is a big issue at the current location. This is why they want to locate the entrance at the south end. The development is not viable without use of other property and other projects haven’t worked out because of restrictions. Will consider and look at our comments. Comments consisted of reservations concerning the demolition of the historic mansion on the south end of the parking lot, focus on vehicle access and not foot or bus traffic, no access or architectural relief on the north facing wall, lack of street access, street windows, need to follow Sugar House Master Plan and not miss the opportunity to activate a street front for an urban location. Land Use & Zoning Committee was disappointed that suggestions given to this project were not considered.
