SHCC Meeting Minutes August 7, 2013

SUGAR HOUSE COMMUNITY COUNCIL BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING

Meeting Minutes – August 7, 2013

The regular meeting of the Sugar House Community Council was held on Wednesday, August 7, 2013, at 7:00pm, at the Sprague Library. Trustees in attendance were Carole Straughn, Deb Henry, Shelia O’Driscoll, Rawlins Young, David Mulder, Robin Bastar, Joedy Lister, Topher Horman, Steve Lister, Scott Kisling, Cabot Nelson, Judi Short, Amy Barry, Christopher Thomas, Annalisa Holcombe, Maggie Shaw, Sally Barraclough, Benny Keele, Jack Perry, and Michael G. Kavanagh. Christopher Thomas served as chair and Cabot Nelson as secretary. The trustees noted as excused were Larry Migliaccio and Laurie Bray.

 

Call to order at 7:02pm. Cabot Nelson gave his secretary report. Motion to approve the minutes of the July meeting passed on a voice vote.

Robin Bastar gave his treasurer report.

Police and Fire departments report

Captain Steve Smith of Station 3 gave a report on the fire department.

SLPD Officer Scott Mourtgos gave a report on the police department.

Committee reports

Judi Short reported for the Land Use and Zoning committee. There was no objection to amending the agenda, allowing Judi to talk about blade signs. Cabot Nelson moved that the SHCC support the idea of the blade signs. Motion passed by a voice vote.

Deb Henry reported for the Transportation committee.

Amy Barry reported for the Arts and Cultural committee.

Annalisa Holcombe reported for the SH Business committee.

Streetcar update

Bill Knowles provided an update about the streetcar constructions and other projects in the area.

City Council Presentations

The five candidates in the primary election for city council district 7 spoke and took questions in turn: Lisa Ramsey Adams for 5 minutes, Deb Henry for 6 minutes, Kevin Paulson for 5 minutes, Topher Horman for 7 minutes, and Amy Barry for 5 minutes.

Community and City Presentations

For the business spotlight, Michael G Kavanagh introduced Gary Reuter of Hearth and Home at 973 East 2100 South.

Mary Maloney reported on library events.

Shawn McDonough gave a report for the Mayor’s Office. Cabot Nelson moved to state that the SHCC is pleased with the new Public Safety Building. The motion passed on a voice vote
