SUGAR HOUSE COMMUNITY COUNCIL BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING
Meeting Minutes – June 5, 2013
The regular meeting of the Sugar House Community Council was held on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at 7:00pm, at the Sprague Library. Trustees in attendance were Carol Straughn, Deb Henry, Rawlins Young, Dave Mulder, Robin Bastar, Matt Kirkegaard, Cabot Nelson, Scott Kisling, Amy Barry, Judi Short, Christopher Thomas, Maggie Shaw, Sally Barraclough, Benny Keele, Larry Migliaccio, Michael G. Kavanagh, Annalisa Holcomb, Laurie Bray, and Shelia O’Driscoll. Christopher Thomas served as chair and Cabot Nelson as secretary. The trustees noted as excused were Joedy Lister, Dolores Donohoo, and Steven Lester.
Call to order at 7:03pm. Cabot Nelson gave his secretary report. Motion to approve the minutes of the May meeting passed on a voice vote. Vice chair Amy Barry provided an update on Sugarmont Fest and the hazardous waste cleanup. Dave Mulder provided an update on the July 4 booth.
Police and Fire department reports
SLPD Officer Andrew Leonard gave a report on the police department.
Brandon Turman of the SLFD Station 3 ‘C’ Platoon gave a report on the fire department.
Public comments for items not on the agenda
Michael G. Kavanagh and Deb Henry made comments.
Committee reports
Judi Short reported for the Land Use and Zoning committee. Cabot Nelson moved that the SHCC oppose the removal from the open space inventory and oppose rezoning of the parcels of land fronting Sugarmont Ave. from 900 East to McClelland St. The motion passed on a voice vote.
Sally Barraclough reported for the Parks, Open Space, and Trails committee.
Larry Migliaccio reported for the Transportation committee.
Judi Short reported for the Historical committee.
Laurie Bray reported for the Arts and Cultural committee.
Scott Kisling reported for the Business committee.
Annalisa Holcomb reported for the Merchants Association.
Special presentations
Thomas Ward, Deputy Director SLC Public Utilities, gave a report on the sewer projects.
Matt Pacenza, Policy Director of HEAL Utah, gave a presentation about the Tier 3 standards. Scott Kisling made the following motion: “The SHCC supports the Tier III standard, and will submit a comment to the EPA of this support, and will write letters of support to SLC and County mayors, the governor, and others as appropriate.” Motion passed on a voice vote.
Community and City Presentations
Soren Simonsen gave updates about Salt Lake City Council.
For the business spotlight, Michael G Kavanagh introduced the proprietor of Ekamai at 14505 East 2100 South.
Mary Maloney reported on library events.
Shawn McDonough gave a report for the Mayor’s Office.
