SUGAR HOUSE COMMUNITY COUNCIL BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING

Meeting Minutes – November 7, 2012

The regular meeting of the Sugar House Community Council was held on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, at 7:00pm, at the Sprague Library. Trustees in attendance were Larry Migliaccio, Joedy Lister, Sheila O’Driscoll, Robin Bastar, David Mulder, Scott Kisling, Cabot Nelson, Judi Short, Christopher Thomas, Rawlins Young, Benny Keele, Laurie Bray, and Michael G. Kavanagh. Christopher Thomas served as chair and Cabot Nelson as secretary. The trustees noted as excused were Dolores Donohoo and Amy Barry.

Call to order at 7:05pm. Cabot Nelson gave his secretary report. Motion to amend the minutes of the October meeting was approved with a correction to the spelling of Michael G. Kavanagh.

Robin Bastar gave his treasurer report.

Christopher Thomas as chair made announcements.

Motion to disband the Sustainability Committee was postponed.

Motion to disband the Affordable Housing Committee passed on a voice vote.

Police and Fire reports

From the fire department, Chris Milne, Jason Asay, and Chief Cook presented an award to three boys for their heroism.

Officer Andy Leonard, SLPD, gave a report on area crime.

Public comments for items not on the agenda

Michael Rubin, resident near Hollywood Avenue and McClelland Street, expressed concerns about secondary effects (noise, trespassing, littering) of Club Karamba.

Committee Reports

Judi Short reported for the Land Use and Zoning committee. Motion regarding Draft Sugar House Circulation and Streetscape Amenities Plan:

    1. The Parley’s Trail Short-Term and Long-Term Preferred Alignment
    2. The Jordan and Salt Lake City Canal Trail Preferred Alignment
    3. The Dividing Larger Blocks component of the Sugar House Business District Circulation Plan
    4. Closure of the Plaza Bypass Street (Right-turn street)

Judi Short reported for the Historical committee.

Laurie Bray reported for the Arts and Cultural committee.

Scott Kisling reported for the Sugar House Business committee.

Trustee petition

Motion to approve the petition of Steve Lester of Grandview passed on a voice vote.

Community groups and projects

Bill Knowles reported on updates to the streetcar planning and construction.

For the Sugar House Merchants Association, the motion that the SHCC adopt a light pole for Christmas Decorations for $250 passed on a voice vote.

Community and City Presentations

Soren Simonsen gave updates about Salt Lake City Council.

For the business spotlight, Michael G Kavanagh introduced Dena Dastrup, Cart Manager, for ZAGG on 1115 East 2100 South.

Dolly Rauh reported on library events.

Shawn McDonough gave a report for the Mayor’s Office.
