29 Jan 2025 SH LUZ REPORT February
On January 8, the Planning Commission reviewed a request to vacate the Alley at 2860 Chadwick. They will forward a recommendation to approve the closure to the City Council.
Salt Lake City announced a name change for its Redevelopment Agency, now officially known as the Salt Lake City Community Reinvestment Agency (CRA).
The City Council approved stronger zoning standards for the minimum distance a gas station can be from a river, stream, park or other Natural Space. The city decided to make this very clear in the ordinance, after the proposal to put a gas station on the corner of 2100 South and 1300 East was proposed. There is an earthen dam below the ground near that parcel. This is an overflow area for Sugar House Lake, which flows into the city drinking water.
The city continues their zoning ordinance cleanup language project, and combining zones project. Currently, they have a proposal to combine RMF-35 and RMF-45 zones into one zone. You can read about it and comment here. We have until March 1 to provide our comments to the city.
We just received another text amendment to Modify Residential Buffer Prohibitions. That will be on the February 10th LUZ agenda.
We expect to have a presentation about a proposal for the Sizzler property on the March SHCC agenda.
Mayor Mendenhall’s Public Safety Plan can be found here. This was done at the request of the Legislature, and we hope the Legislature will help the city with funding some of this.
