SHCC LUZ Newsletter August 2024 #2

This is an interim newsletter to try to clarify what all is

going on with Land Use in Sugar House.

Salt Lake City has been working on its zone consolidation project.  They are consolidating 27 zones into nine.  You can read about them here. Sign up for the updates to keep up with the project, and don’t miss a deadline. So far, they have combined the MU-8 zone and the MU-11 zone. The details of the combined zoning are contained in the story map. (This will also be helpful when reviewing the changes to the New Wells Fargo Proposal.)

The aim is to simplify zoning regulations, improve clarity of language, and include missing design standards. This will create a more user-friendly code for the city to manage and will make it easier for the public to understand. The new mixed-use districts will be similar to the current ones but will have changes to setbacks, building height, lot coverage, permitted land uses, and related provisions.

There will be a Commercial and Mixed-use walking tour of Sugar House on September 9 at 6 p.m.  PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE OF DATE. Meet at Sugar House Park (Sego Lily Tunnel). We will walk to 2100 S Highland/McClelland/Sugarmont (MU-3, MU-5, MU-6 and MU-11). Come see what the Zone consolidation could look like.

You have probably heard that Harbor Bay Ventures has submitted a new proposal to the city for the Wells Fargo parcel. They want to use a new zone of their creation (MU15) for this proposal. Follow this link https://www.slc.gov/planning/2024/07/11/openhouse-00960/ for a clear explanation of the new proposal.  We don’t have any drawings, so use your imagination.
