28 Oct SHCC LUZ REPORT 2025 NOV
On October 22, the Planning Commission reviewed the application for the SUGAR HOUSE HOTEL. After much discussion, they approved the proposal 7-1. Amy Barry was the only one who voted against the proposal. You can go to our website www.sugarhousecouncil.org, look for committees across the top and on the left, look for Sugar House Hotel. There you can see the details of the project, the staff report, the many comments we received, the letter I wrote, and watch a You Tube recording of the meeting. It will go to the City Council for a final decision. That probably won’t happen until January, after the new City Council people are elected.
There were also articles in Building Salt Lake, the Salt Lake Tribune, and Deseret News.
At our October 20 Land Use Meeting, we discussed a proposal for an Aveda Vocational School at the former LDS Ward at 855 E Garfield Avenue. The ward runs between Downington Avenue and Garfield Avenue. We did flyer the neighborhood, had some neighbors at our meeting, and have been getting a lot of comments. There are concerns about additional traffic in a neighborhood that has an increasing number of children. There is also concern about parking. The vocational school will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Customers will also be coming in for haircuts, etc, and to buy products. If you go on our website, you can read about the project and fill out a comment form. Comments will be taken until November 18. We are hoping the representative from Aveda will provide more information, he didn’t seem to know much about the project.
Jordan Cullimore from the State Office of the Property Rights Ombudsman presented the agency’s role to provide Utahns with information on Zoning and Land Use law. He explained how decisions are made, what each decision makers role is and what flexibility they have. If you have questions about Property Rights law, they can help explain the law, and can also act as mediator between government and citizens if needed. Here are his informative slides.
On our November 17 Land Use Meeting at 6 p.m. at Sprague, we have two items so far. There is a partial alley vacation 2191 S 2000 East (be posted in the morning). Here is a link to the details of this proposal. You will find a comment form where you can provide your thoughts about this proposal.
We will also have a presentation about the details of the Sugar House Streetcar Extension going into the Sugar House Center across Highland Drive. I don’t know if we will have any specific information before November 17.
